OTTUMWA -- Texas Congressman and Republican presidential candidate hopeful Ron Paul stopped in Ottumwa Tuesday. The congressman has garnered a lot of backing in the Hawkeye state. Young voters have become very vocal supporters especially during nationally-televised debates.
As Ron Paul spoke to about 75 supporters at the Bridge View Center on Tuesday you couldn’t help but notice several younger voters in attendance. In order to win the GOP nomination, winning the youth vote is a must.
“We get more young people into our campaign then all the rest put together,” Paul said. “To me, that’s very, very encouraging and our job is to keep them energized and get out to vote.”
The reasons that these young twenty-something’s are supporting this 76-year-old congressman vary among voters.
“I get different answers. Some just say ‘I like your position on the constitution.’ ‘I like your foreign policy we shouldn’t be fighting these wars.’ So many of them are enthusiastic about the Federal Reserve, which always fascinates me.”
Barack Obama came to power in the White House because of huge support from young voters and if Congressman Paul or any other Republican plans to win they’ll need to steal those votes away.
