MACON, MISSOURI -- Halloween is coming up and many are concerned about safety for trick or treaters.
We headed to the Macon Police Department to talk to the Assistant Chief of Police, Jeff Brown, to hear his recommendations.
Brown said most importantly, trick or treaters should wear bright clothing, go to neighborhoods they're familiar with, and go only to houses that have their porch lights on.
"Dress in reflective costumes, which a lot of costumes now are reflective," said Jeff Brown. "The manufacturers make them that way. They need to carry a light. I know a lot of Walmarts and the variety of stores have little pumpkin flashlights that the kids can carry. "
Capt. Brown said it's also important for motorists to be more cautious on Halloween.
"For the adults, out driving during this peak time, they need to be safe as well. They need to drive slower, they need to pay attention for kids that may be darting in and out of cars and stuff like that."
If you live in Macon, McGruff the crime dog will be handing out candy from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Macon Police Department.
