KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- An elderly Kirksville man escapes an ATV accident with moderate injuries Saturday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Garnet Peek, 84, of Kirksville, was transported by Air Evac to University Hospital in Columbia after striking a pickup truck carrying a lawnmower on the back of it.

The accident happened on Hwy HH, five miles west of the US-63.

"The guy on the gulf cart was coming off the gravel road and pulled into the side of that white truck and they were heading westbound," said Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper Trent Haley.

"He had some head injuries, shoulder injuries, skin up, but I thinnk he's going to be alright," said Charles Barrett, a neighbor who was in a field close by when the accident happened.

After striking the truck, Peek was ejected from his vehicle. But, his neighbor said he was a little out of it but conscious and talking when paramedics arrived.

The pickup truck was driven by Michael Heaton, of Macon, Missouri.
