UNIONVILLE, MISSOURI -- The Police Chief of the Unionville Police Department has been fired.
Former Police Chief James Rollins worked for the Unionville Police Department consecutively for the past 13 years. He was fired on Oct. 6, during a closed session of the Unionville city council meeting.
According to the minutes, Rollins was asked to complete a list of tasks under a certain time frame. He told the council he had completed all of the tasks but one. Council members stated they were concerned about his oversight, role-modeling, and his officer evaluations, as well the way he handled certain cases. After he was given time to comment, he was asked to leave the room and the council unanimously voted to discharge him of his duties.
Rollins said he was unavailable to do an in-person interview but did take the time to talk to KTVO on the phone regarding his dismissal. He said he believes that some members of the city council thought that he did not take his job seriously enough because he left town for a family member's funeral during the Putnam County Fair.
Rollins said he was given six weeks to complete eight tasks. By the Oct. 6th meeting, he said he completed all but one of them because it required a class that was not offered until December.
Rollins said he did everything he could to save his job.
The Aldermen who were present during the Oct. 6 meeting were Diane Carter, Don Veirs, and Jesse Knowles.
