KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- Kirksville's youngest and brightest professionals were awarded Thursday evening for their continual efforts to make Kirksville a great city to live in.
The Kirksville Young Professionals held their 2011 Fall Banquet, where they awarded five residents with a "5 under 40" award. This award was given to young professionals under the age of 40, who live in Kirksville, and have demonstrated dedication to their careers and a commitment to their community.
The five winners were Councilwoman and schoolteacher Carolyn Chrisman, Realtor and Businesswoman Heather Condon, Truman State Academic Advisor Erin Shaw, Real Estate Broker Mike LaBeth, and Systems Administrator Ashley W. Young.
The three-person selection committee said it was tough reducing the field of 18 nominees down to five people.
"It wasn't easy," said Samuel Berendzen, one of the members of the "5 under 40" award selection committee. "All of the candidates were very qualified. It was exceptionally difficult to narrow it down to 10 much less five. We felt that we were able to identify five that had contributed and will contribute in the future."
KTVO was one of the sponsors of the banquet and award ceremony.
The Kirksville Young Professionals started back in July of 2010. They host "lunch and learn events" catered towards young adults.
