SIGOURNEY, IOWA -- A suspicious package caused a scare Tuesday afternoon in a southeast Iowa community.
Around 3:40 p.m., the Sigourney Police Department was notified by the Sigourney Post Office that there was a suspicious box behind the building.
Police and the U.S. Postal inspectors office decided to contact the Iowa State Fire Marshall's Bomb Squad.
People within a 300-foot radius were asked to leave the area as a precaution.
Bomb squad investigators analyzed the box and determined it did not contain anything hazardous.
Other agencies that assisted with the incident were the Sigourney Public Works Department, Iowa State Patrol, Sigourney Fire Department and Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office.
