KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Local government and business leaders are seeking community input.

A group of community partners led by the Missouri Employer Committee, as well as several organizations, such as the City of Kirksville, the Kirksville R-III Schools, the Northeast Missouri Community Action Agency, the Kirksville Family Support Division and the Missouri Career Center are working together to try and gather information on the needs regarding childcare in Adair County.

Truman State University's Center for Applied Statistics and Evaluation (CASE) developed a survey in response to the information requested.

The survey was designed to access the availability and affordability of childcare in the community.  The survey has general age specific questions. It asks the age of the children, the hours childcare is needed, and questions on cost and affordability.

Another concern that will be looked at is families that are currently not able to access childcare, and what impact that might be having on their ability to gain or maintain employment.

Kevin Minch, the Director of Truman Institute said, "We are particularly interested in finding out whether the times childcare is available are sufficient for the people that need them. There are a lot of shift workers in town who often can not get childcare at night, so we are interested in knowing if we need to make changes in order to be able to serve their needs."

The survey is available to any member of the community. A paper copy of the survey can be obtained by calling 660-785-5384.  The online version of the survey is encouraged because it provides more detailed questions. The online version can be assessed at http://case.truman.edu/childcare.asp

CASE is a statistics consulting center. It's purpose is to help people who want to collect data analyze it. It provides assistance with the full range of typical survey and quantitative research that helps clients understand statistical data for their organization.
