KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A community is in shock after a young boy's body was found in a wooded area Friday afternoon not far from the Kirksville Schools campus.

Adair County Coroner Brian Noe confirms that the body was that of an 11-year-old boy who was a Kirksville student.

Noe told KTVO the death appears to be an apparent suicide, but the incident remains under investigation. He says an autopsy is scheduled.

The boy's body was found by his grandmother.

The discovery was made in a wooded area behind a residence near the corner of East Patterson and Cottage Grove in Kirksville.

Police, fire and ambulance crews responded to a 911 call shortly after 4 Friday afternoon.  The boy's body was recovered from a wooded area around 5:30 p.m. Friday.
