MARCELINE, MO. -- The rain and chilly temperatures didn’t keep cartoon lovers from attending an annual event.

The 14th annual Toon Fest took place Saturday in Marceline. People came to celebrate the art of cartooning and animation. There was tons of family fun including a princess tea party, a pirate ship, parade, train rides, vendors and food.

Organizers say they do this in honor of their hometown son Walt Disney.

“Walt Disney said more things happened to him in Marceline than what happened to him the rest of his life," Kaye Malins, Toon Fest Committee member, said. "So we celebrate his heritage here in Marceline every day, but especially on Toon Fest day. There's not one cartoonist that's ever been here that hasn’t felt inspired by the work of Walt Disney. So it's kind of a holy pilgrimage to them. They get to come here and see where it all started.”

There also was a cartoon symposium in which cartoonists talked about their careers.

Toon Fest is held every year on the third Saturday in September.
