EDDYVILLE, IOWA -- One Iowa school district begins changes after a ballot proposal passes.
The Fremont and Eddyville-Blakesburg school districts will now combine into one district after the referendum passed by a 300 vote difference.

Within the next 45 days, the newly merged district will have to establish a new board.
“Just like we do every year, we have a reorganization meeting or a start up,” said superintendent Dr. Dean Cook. “We’ll have to go about establishing a course of policy manual and of course we won’t do a budget until February, March and so we’ll start through all that process.
Fremont will select its member to the new school board once it’s reorganized. Cook added that the school district will now go under the name of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Community School District.
The transition will be a smooth one according to Cook. The schools have been sharing equipment and staff for about 20 years.
