KIRKSVILLE, MO --
For Tuesday’s Facebook Story of the Day, our fans voted to learn more about what happens to the contents of unpaid storage units.

In Missouri, the owner of the unit can sell your property if you are a month behind on rent. But the owner must send you a notice at least 45 days before selling any property.

They must also send a second notice within 10 days of the first notice before selling.

At least seven days before the sale, the owner must advertise the place and terms of the sale.

At any time during this process, the renter can pay the owner and get their stored items back.

Several storage unit owners in Kirksville told KTVO that they've never had a problem with unpaid rent for storage locker units.
