COLUMBIA, MO. -- The son of Missouri Governor Jay Nixon was issued a citation for marijuana possession in Columbia early Saturday morning.
Around 1:30 a.m., Columbia Police were called to a loud party at Brookeside Apartments on South 10th Street.
Upon arriving at the apartment complex, police reported an “overwhelming smell of marijuana in the hallway.”
“We've been getting calls about loud parties at this complex every weekend,” Columbia Police Spokesperson Jill Wieneke said.
Officers said they put their heads in one of the lower-level apartments and reported seeing a bag of marijuana on the table at the apartment. A young man at the table, later identified as Willson Nixon, 21, allegedly tried to conceal the marijuana, according to Wieneke.
A friend, who was also cited in the incident, told KTVO’s sister station, KRCG, that Nixon does not live at the apartment complex and that the marijuana was not Nixon's.
Wieneke said officers were unaware that Willson was the Governor's son.
Nixon is scheduled to appear in court within the next 4-6 weeks. If found guilty, the judge can issue him a fine and/or community service.
