SOUTHEAST IOWA -- For KTVO’S September 8th Facebook Story of the Day, our fans wanted to know what authorities do to keep persistent drunk drivers off the road.

The answer is complicated because each case varies depending on what judgment a judge hands down in his or her ruling.

According to law enforcement officials and the Iowa Department of Corrections, in Iowa, a judge could impose a breathalyzer device on the driver's ignition to make sure the driver does not drive while intoxicated.

A judge could also order the accused to counseling and rehabilitation programs.

Repeat offenders could also have their driving privileges taken away completely and also serve time behind bars.
