KIRKSVILLE, MO. --
New college students had a chance to get to know Kirksville a little bit better this evening.

The Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual “New Student Welcome” event on the downtown square Thursday night for all new students of Truman State University, A.T. Still University, and Moberly Area Community College.

Many local businesses had booths at the event to provide information to the students.

Organizers say they want new students to be welcomed with open arms and see what the city of Kirksville has to offer them.

“A lot of students get here and move to Kirksville not knowing what goes on.” Shawn Gadley, Project Manager of Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce said. “Here they get to know the businesses here in the area. Hopefully they will be more likely to wan to stay here after they graduate and help build the community.”

There was also a DJ who provided music and there was lots of free food, cotton candy, and other goodies to go around.

Organizers say the turnout was pretty good and the event was a total success.
