MACON, MO. -- This year’s Labor Day weekend traffic and enforcement totals for the Missouri Highway Patrol Troop B area were released on Tuesday. The Troop B area consists of the 16 northeast Missouri counties.
Troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E., Combined Accident Reduction Effort, and conducted a “20 Mile Trooper Operation” on U.S. Highways 24, 36 and 63 over the holiday weekend.
During the weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 Friday evening and ended at 11:59 Monday evening, officers investigated 11 traffic crashes resulting in two fatalities and five injuries. The fatalities occurred in a single vehicle traffic crash in Monroe County on Sunday.
Preliminary enforcement totals show officers issued 419 summonses for speed, 101 summonses for seat belt violations, 816 warnings, made 13 arrests for driving while intoxicated and assisted 158 motorists.
“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” stated Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B.
