OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Election season is upon us here in the Heartland!
On Friday, KTVO learned the final list of candidates for Mayor and City Council.
Candidates running for Mayor include Frank Flander, Robert LaPoint and current Ottumwa Mayor, Dale Uehling.
Candidates running for City Council include; John Richards, Denny Whitson; and incumbents Keith Caviness and Mitch Niner.
Ottumwa Public Information Officer Tom Rodgers told KTVO that a primary will have to be held because of the number of candidates running for Mayor.
“Due to the number of candidates that filed for the Mayor’s office, we will have a primary election, and that is going to be on October 11th. That will determine the final two candidates to go onto the November ballot for Mayor,” said Rodgers.
If voters want to meet the candidates, Rodgers says that most likely, they will have the opportunity.
“Campaign season is always an exciting time and here in Ottumwa is no exception. I’m sure there will be a number of events for the various candidates, and a lot of them do go door to door. The League of Women Voters typically sponsors a forum prior to each election, and that is a good opportunity for citizens to learn more about the candidates and what their positions are on various issues,” said Rodgers.
