KIRKSVILLE, MO --
With the 10th anniversary of the attacks on September 11 upon us, national reports say the Big Apple still hasn't quite connected the dots when it comes to inter-agency communication.
We wanted to know what capabilities local emergency responders have, so we checked in with Kirksville officials.
The radio system does allow the various agencies like police, fire, and ambulance to communicate with each other on different frequencies.
“By communicating to dispatch we can identify what channel the emergency's going to be on and we can all switch to those channels in the city of Kirksville to talk to each other, and some other agencies outside the City of Kirksville,” said Randy Behrens, Emergency Management Director for the City of Kirksville.
Behrens says they have practiced the communication plan and used it in real life events like the Blizzard of 2011.
He's says its important that all responders be on the same page from the start during an emergency.
