Albia man found stabbed

ALBIA, IOWA -- The Albia Police Department says it's investigating an apparent stabbing.

Chief Jay Andrews says county and city law enforcement officers responded to 171/2 N. Main in Albia in the early morning hours of August 22 after receiving a report of a possible stabbing.

Upon their arrival officers found Stephen John Morgenthaler, 31, suffering from what appeared to be stabbing injuries to the neck.

Morgenthaler was transported to the Monroe County Hospital and then airlifted to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

He is currently listed in critical condition.

The Albia Police Department is not commenting on the incident, beyond saying they are investigating. The department says they will provide more information as it becomes available.
