KENNETT, MO. -- Authorities in southeast Missouri say they've found remains believed to be those of missing three-year-old Breeann Rodriguez.
Prosecutors and law enforcement officers say the girl's body was found near a series of ditches about eight miles from her home in Senath. Parts of the girl's bike had previously been found in the area.
Shawn Morgan, 43, a neighbor of the girl, has been charged with first-degree murder in her death. He is also charged with armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence.
Police say Morgan has confessed to killing Rodriguez after finding the child at his backyard swimming pool in Senath. He told police he then threw her body in a floodway ditch near the Mississippi River.
