KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A northeast Missouri man is sentenced to time in both the county jail and a state penitentiary.

Brian Washington, 25, of Kirksville was given a five-year sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to a felony charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The Adair County Prosecutor’s Office said Kirksville Police Department found Washington with approximately 14 grams of pot.

The maximum sentence for that charge is seven years.

Washington was also ordered to serve six months in the county jail after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of 2nd-degree child molestation.

The maximum penalty for the child molestation charge is one year in jail.

Washington will be required to register as a sex offender when he is released from prison.

He was sentenced in Adair County Circuit Court on August 1.
