NOVELTY, MO. -- The Greenley Memorial Research Center showcased the latest innovations in agriculture production during their 34th Annual Field Day Tuesday morning.
During Tuesday’s event, participants had the chance to learn what the research facility is all about through a variety of tours.
Those tours included crop production, pest management and beef production.
Organizers say having a research facility like the one located near Novelty, Mo. is important in every aspect.
“The experiment station was established so that this research would be done locally so that farmers could look to the environment that this research is being conducted and they would be able to relate those soil types and that environment and it would be more applicable to their production system,” said Resident Research Agronomist Dr. Kelly Nelson.
More than 250 people attended the yearly event and it wasn’t just farmers.
“There’s a lot of people involved in this event not just farmers,” said Greenley Research Center Superintendent Randall Smoot. “Somehow one way or another they are tied into farming, it might be agri-business, it could be in banking, but agriculture kind of makes the whole state of Missouri operate. If we didn’t have agriculture in the state of Missouri, I don’t know what would be going on.”
The Field Day was free and open to the public and organizers say attending something like this could be very beneficial.
“I would like to think that they would hopefully pick up some new technology, new information or new practice that would make their operation more profitable, something that would improve their bottom line or their way of life,” Smoot said.
The Greenley Memorial Research Center is one of 16 around the state at which the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources conducts research to benefit Missouri Farmers.
