KANSAS CITY, MO (AP) -- A thief stole a donation jar intended to help a Kansas City family have a funeral for a child who recently died.

But donors have since paid off the remaining $800 funeral bill.

The Kansas City Star reports the theft of the oversize plastic baby bottle July 20 from a gas station counter outraged members of the community.

Afterward, several people donated to Elite Funeral Chapel, including a $500 gift made Friday.

April Johnson, the great-aunt of the baby who died, said she was thankful for the donations.

Johnson said the donation jar contained about $400 when it was stolen.
