KIRKSVILLE, MO -- University of Missouri Extension Master Gardener training classes will be offered August 25-November 10, 2011 in Kirksville. Classes will be held on Thursday afternoons from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Classes will be held on a wide variety of gardening topics including diseases, insects, soils & fertilizer, vegetables, fruit, trees & shrubs, pruning, lawn care, flowers and landscaping. Cost for the training is $150 per person. To be a Master Gardener, you must attend 30 hours of classroom training AND provide 30 hours of volunteer service your first year after training. Master Gardeners are adults of all ages who love gardening and who have some gardening experience. They are members of the local community who are interested in lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, gardens, and the environment. The primary responsibility of a Master Gardener is to answer questions from area residents about home horticulture, and to help them find environmentally sound solutions to gardening and landscape problems, in addition to assisting with University Extension horticulture programming.
