KIRKSVILLE, MO --
Progress toward the possibility of a new DNA lab in Kirksville is slowly inching forward.

The Human Identification Technologies Lab project was recently killed and the building was put up for sale.

We recently reported that City Manager Mari Macomber was contacted by a group of local investors interest in opening a DNA lab.

But before the city could even think about negotiating with NEMO Forensics Labs LLC, they had a little housekeeping to do.

The Kirksville City Council has voted to assign an agreement they had with HIT over to the new forensics lab.

“It was fairly simple. We didn't feel as if we could in good conscience start talking with another group while we still had this obligation with the previous group,” said Police Chief Jim Hughes.

NEMO Forensics Labs, LLC expects to present business plans to the city council in the near future.
