JEFFERSON CITY, MO (AP) --
Missouri's governor and legislative leaders have been jockeying to put their insignia on an overhaul of the state's tax incentives.
The proposal targeted for a September special session would create incentives for exporters at the St. Louis airport, science and technology companies and computerized data centers while scaling back some of Missouri's existing tax credits.
Republican legislative leaders rolled out the details of the plan first. But Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon has now attached a name
to it: the "Made in Missouri Jobs Package."
The plan could be a political winner for officeholders seeking re-election next year. But economists generally remain skeptical
about the impact of state tax breaks targeted for certain businesses on the overall health of the economy.
