OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Updated - June 29 -1:00 pm. The body of Marco Arroyo has been recovered.
The Wapello County Sheriff's Office says it received a call about 10 a.m. Friday from the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, saying it had received notice of a body in the river near Keosauqua.
A short time later, a body was recovered and identified as Marco Arroyo.
Updated - 4:30 p.m. - Wapello County Sheriff Don Kirkendall spoke with KTVO late Thursday afternoon about the on-going search for 16-year-old Marco Arroyo of Ottumwa.
Sheriff Kirkendall told KTVO that with the assistance of the Ottumwa Fire Department and the Eldon Fire Department the river has been and will continued to be search from Ottumwa to Eldon, Iowa.
The sheriff did say that the rescue effort has now become a recovery effort, “At this point, we will continue our recovery effort until we feel in the coming days, that we have exhausted every means necessary to make a recovery. The best case scenario is that he will surface sometime within the next three days.”
Update - 2:30 p.m. - The Wapello County Sheriff's Office and Ottumwa Fire Department responded just after 2 p.m. to the Des Moines River near the Bridge View Convention Center.
A passerby had reported seeing something along the river bank, and Emergency responders believed it might be a break in the disappearance of 16-year old Marco Arroyo. But ultimately it determined to be an unfounded report.
Wapello County Sheriff Don Kirkendahl did tell KTVO that the investigation is now a recovery effort, rather than a rescue effort.
The Wapello County Sheriff's Office is still searching for an Ottumwa teen who was last seen entering the Des Moines River.
Late Wednesday evening, Marco Arroyo, 16, of 115 N. Holt Street, entered the Des Moines River in an attempt to rescue his dog.
Arroyo was pulled under the water and has not been seen since.
Sheriff's Deputies searched the river on Wednesday until darkness hindered their efforts.
The search is continuing Thursday morning with the help of the Ottumwa Fire Department and the Eldon Fire Department.
