KIRKSVILLE, MO --
The NEMO Fair unofficially started Sunday with the crowning of the fair royalty.
29 young ladies participated in the 2011 NEMO Fair Queen Pageant.
Girls ages 9 to 22 competed for the title of Young Miss, Teen Miss, or NEMO Fair Queen.
The pageant included interviews, talent, and evening gown categories.
Committee members say the pageant is a good experience, and a way for the girls to learn interview skills.
“The winners will get to do a lot of fun things. They get to meet the talent that comes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night, they also are here during the day handing out ribbons to winners and whatnot. They're here all week representing the NEMO Fair,” said Pageant Committee Member Kristin Kinney.
Megan Pennington was crowned Young Miss, Rebecca Helton is the new Teen Miss, and the 2011 NEMO Fair Queen is Nancy Jackson.
Jackson will go on to compete for the crown at the Missouri State Fair in August.
The NEMO Fair officially opens Monday with an opening ceremony at 8 a.m.
