NOVELTY, MO -- The Greenley Research Center will showcase the latest innovations in agricultural production at its annual field day on August 9. The Center, located just east of Novelty, Mo., is one of 16 around the state at which the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources conducts impactful research benefitting Missouri farmers.

The Missouri Corn Growers Association will sponsor a breakfast at 7 a.m. and the field day kicks off at 8 a.m., featuring multiple informative tours. Max Glover, plant science specialist, and extension associate Joe Kendrick will demonstrate energy efficiency and cost savings techniques. Justin Sexten, MU Extension beef nutrition specialist, will present grazing wedge research for improved pasture management, and MU Extension veterinary medicine specialist Craig Payne will report on trichomonaisis outbreaks across the state and discuss how to comply with new policy changes on bull sales and transport.

Patrick Nash, a doctoral candidate in the MU Soil and Atmospheric Sciences, will share his research findings on enhanced efficiency nitrogen applications in wheat. Resident research agronomist Kelly Nelson will demonstrate managed drainage systems for increased crop production and improved water quality, and will provide drainage 101 after the noon meal. “This is an opportunity to have an overview of design and visualize a working drainage water management system,” Nelson said.

Chris Dudenhoeffer will share results of no-till and strip till research with phosphorus enhancing products. Manjula Nathan, extension associate professor, will report on lime management and soil testing.  The pest management tour will feature topics on residual activity of dicamba, weed resistance management, and boron-fungicide interaction research in corn. “We have to be aware of when it is appropriate to put additives with a fungicide application otherwise we may be doing some recreational spending,” Nelson said.

The Field Day is free and open to the public. Lunch is provided and attendees are invited to continue to explore the research plots throughout the day. Kristin Perry, executive director of Agricultural Leadership of Tomorrow, will speak during lunch.
