JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- An industry group says Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's administration has indicated it will veto legislation that would delay a sprinkler system requirement for residential care and assisted living centers.
Jon Dolan, executive director for the Missouri Health Care Association, said Wednesday he was told by Nixon's office the bill would be vetoed. The association represents skilled nursing, assisted living and residential care facilities. It supports the sprinkler requirement and opposed legislation delaying it.
A 2007 law passed after a fatal fire at the Anderson Guest House in southwest Missouri requires facilities with at least 20 beds to install sprinklers by the end of 2012. The Legislature passed a bill this year extending that deadline to the end of 2014.
