MASON CITY, IOWA (AP) --
Mason City police say an officer shot and killed a dog that attacked him.
Police received a report Friday afternoon that a pit bull was running loose and had charged two children playing in their front
yard. The children were able to get to safety.
Police say that as the officer tried to find the owner of the dog, it attacked him. That's when he fatally shot the animal.
Charges are pending against the dog's owner.
