KEOSAUQUA, IOWA -- There is a sad ending to the story of a missing Heartland woman.

At approximately 2:20 p.m. Friday, the body of Kathryn Schafer of Birmingham, Iowa was recovered in the Des Moines River.

The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office said her body was found just north of the village of Roberts Park in Keosauqua.

Schafer had been missing since Tuesday morning.

Earlier this week, her vehicle had been found near a boat ramp along the river not far from her family's home in Kilbourne, Iowa.

Pedrick Funeral Home reports that an autopsy will be performed by the Iowa state medical examiner.

Arrangements for a memorial service for Schafer are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.
