KILBOURNE, IOWA -- The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office received a call early Tuesday morning regarding a woman who could have possible fallen into the Des Moines River.
It is reported that Kathryn Ruth Schafer, 88, of Birmingham, Iowa went missing. Law Enforcement Officers have confirmed that her vehicle was located near a boat access road to the Des Moines River near her family’s home in Kilbourne, Iowa.
KTVO spoke with Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Tedrow early Tuesday afternoon, and he informed KTVO that the sheriff’s department along with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are searching for Schafer and will continue to do so.
Officials with the Iowa DNR could not confirm with KTVO the temperature of the river in Kilbourne or how fast the water is moving because they do not have that type of equipment in that part of the Des Moines River.
