KIRKSVILLE,MO -- The Adair County SB40 Developmental Disability Board has awarded a grant in the amount of $11,360 to Kirk Tran.

The Adair County SB40 Developmental Disability Board is a not-for-profit governmental organization that seeks to enrich Adair County to assist in providing essential resources to individuals with developmental disabilities.

The grant money will go to funding Kirk Tran operating expenses.

Kirk Tran is relied upon by the community with disabilities to maintain employment, visit doctors, go shopping and participate in community activities.

Kirk Tran Treasurer Terry Combs said that Kirk Tran is relied upon by citizens of Kirksville now that gas prices have soared.

"The number one reason people utilize Kirk Tran is to go to work. It's very crucial that we have a public service route in our community that people can utilize for shopping, but also to get to work," Combs said.

A ride on Kirk Tran one way in town is $2.00.  A ride outside city limits will cost $3.00.
