KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The Kirksville Police Department would like to remind you as the 4th of July approaches this year, they are concerned for the safety and well-being of the citizens of Kirksville. For these reasons, they are issuing the following reminders.
The discharging of fireworks inside the city limits of Kirksville will be legal starting June 30th and continue through July 5th. Individuals may only discharge fireworks between the hours of 9am and 11pmon their own property. However, if a complaint is received and verified by the police department for disturbance of the peace of surrounding neighbors, discharging of fireworks will immediately cease and a citation may be issued by the responding officers.
We caution all parents to familiarize themselves with the City of Kirksville regulations regarding fireworks in order to have a safe and enjoyable holiday. We find that the fireworks law is sometimes confusing to the citizens of Kirksville. The confusion stems from the fact that you can purchase fireworks in Kirksville on June 20th, but you cannot legally discharge the fireworks you purchase inside the city limits until June 30th.
"Public safety is our main concern. While we want people to enjoy themselves, we want them to be safe too, " said Corporal Sara Holzmeier.
