MACON, MO -- Family, friends and fellow colleagues came together to remember a fallen Trooper.
A highway dedication ceremony and reception was held early Wednesday morning in Macon.
Trooper William R. Brandt, from Brunswick Missouri, was the tenth member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol to tragically lose his life in the line of duty.
On June 12, 1970, he was on storm watch patrol when a tornado blew his patrol car into a concrete bridge abutment on U.S. Hwy 36 near Bevier, Missouri.
31 years later, the "Missouri State Trooper William Brandt Memorial Highway" sign was unveiled during the ceremony. The sign can be seen 1.7 miles west of the intersection of U.S. Hwy 36 and Route O in Macon County.
Matt Broniec, President of Missouri State Troopers Association says, "The sign in this instance is paid for by the Missouri State Troopers Association, which is a separate entity from the highway patrol. They cover the cost of paying the sign, and the Missouri Department of Transportation puts the sign up at the location."
Several speakers spoke during the ceremony, including Brandt's surviving widow and sister, who spoke of their appreciation.
