APPANOOSE COUNTY, IOWA --
A southeast Iowa woman remains in critical condition after being struck by a repeat drunk driving offender.
According to the Appanoose County Sheriff's Office, they received a report of a person being struck by a vehicle in the 29000 block of Highway J3T, east of Moravia early Monday morning.
Investigation of the incident revealed that Tiffany Tallent, age 27, of Moravia was walking north in the 29000 block of Highway J3T when she was struck by a pick-up truck.
Tallent was in the north bound lane of the roadway as Donnie D. Vanderlinden Jr., age 33, was driving a 1995 GMC pickup northbound on Highway J3T. Vanderlinden struck Tallent on the roadway causing life-threatening serious injuries to Tallent.
Tallent was transported to Mercy Hospital in Centerville where she was later transferred to another hospital in critical condition.
Vanderlinden was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, a class "D" Felony. That is his third offense. He was also charged with Driving while Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; Serious Injury by a Vehicle, a class "D" Felony; and for an outstanding warrant out of Polk County, Iowa for Failure to Appear for Driving While Barred.
Vanderlinden is being held in the Appanoose County Jail on $10,000 bond.
The investigation is being conducted by the Appanoose County Sheriff with the assistance of the Iowa State Patrol.
