OTTUMWA -- Officials across Iowa are saying rain, rain go away.

Due to Monday morning storms roads across the heartland saw some damage.  In Wapello County, the storm was not as severe as in surrounding areas.  Road crews have been out surveying the area to look for water-covered roads and streets.

Wapello County engineer Brian Moore says communication with the public is key in helping each other out.

“Flash flooding happens quickly,” said Moore.  “The damage can happen quickly.  So we get phone calls from the public alerting us to areas we may not have known about.”

In some cases it’s better to prepare secondary roads after the ground dries up.

“We’ll be able to go out and retrieve some of that rock out of the ditch and reuse the rock.”

Crews are still trying to fix a bridge on Lake that was damaged because of a log jam thanks to rain earlier in June.
