Former state Sen. Donald Gettings, who served in the Senate for 22 years, has died. Gettings died Monday at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was 87.
Reece Funeral Home, which is handling funeral arrangements, confirmed Gettings' death.
Gettings was a 1942 graduate of Ottumwa High School . He served in the Iowa House of Representatives for three terms before being elected to the state Senate. He retired from the Senate in 2001.
Colleagues and friends call Gettings a mentor who wasn't shy about giving advice.
