DES MOINES, IOWA -- A Florida-based charity has been banned from fundraising in Iowa for at least 10 years.

A news release from the office of Iowa Attorney General TomMiller says the Polk County judge's order on Wednesday was part of a consent judgment against Defeat Diabetes Foundation, Inc.

Theorder included the foundation president, Andrew Mandell, and its treasurer, Jerald Mandell. The Mandells are brothers. Miller says the judgment formally resolves a consumer fraud lawsuit that Miller's office filed Wednesday.

As part of the settlement, the defendants denied any wrongdoing. Defeat Diabetes Foundation is based in Madeira Beach, Fla.

Miller says the foundation failed to ensure donations were being

raised honestly and that the foundation even approved misleading telemarketing scripts.
