FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- With the economy continuing to struggle and local school districts cutting back more and more on extracurricular activities, one local dealership along with a national automaker refuse to give into the cutbacks.
Fesler Auto Mall along with the Ford Motor Company are teaming up to present the “Drive One 4UR School” program. This would be Fesler’s fourth year participating in the program. Co-Owner Brian Starnes told KTVO about the fundraiser.
“The highlights of the program are very simple. For every valid address that shows up to the school and takes a test drive in a Ford or Lincoln product; Ford and the dealership will both donate $20. The company limits us to a $6,000 limit. So we go into the school with a target of getting 300 test drives and raising $6,000,” said Starnes.
According to Starnes, Ford has donated as of this spring, more than 5.5 million dollars. He told KTVO that he has a special place in his heart for education.
“I hold education pretty close to my heart. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity for the last 6 years to serve on the Van Buren Community School District School Board as a director and I see on a daily basis the funds dwindling for the exposure that these kids need,” said Starnes.
Starnes also told KTVO that he doesn’t want to see programs cut such as student council, music and art. Those are usually the first programs to get cut when a school district looks to cut back.
The event will take place at Cardinal High School, September 10th from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
There is not cost to attend the event. Ford only asks that you give some feedback on the vehicle that you test drive.
According to Starnes, not one person at the event will be pressured to buy a vehicle; that is Ford’s policy.
