Hospital names new CEO

OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ottumwa Regional Health Center has a new C-E-O.

Phil Dionne will be taking over the top spot at the facility on July 5.

RegionalCare, the parent company of ORHC made the announcement on its website Tuesday afternoon.

Dionne was previously the CEO at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, Illinois.

The annoucement comes less than a week after ORHC laid-off 43 employees.

Officials at Ottumwa Regional Health Center announced Tuesday that Phil Dionne has been named as the Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Dionne is coming to ORHC from Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, IL. His first day at ORHC will be Tuesday, July 5.

Ottumwa Regional Health Center board chairman Dr. Ted Haas said, “There were a number of things in his experience that we believed made him a great fit for our hospital and our community. Key among those was his success in leading hospitals to a ‘regional hospital’ vision,” recruiting physicians, and history of leading organizations providing high quality care and patient satisfaction.”

Chad Patrick, division president at RegionalCare Hospital Partners added, “Phil has more than 30 years of hospital leadership experience, serving as the CEO of hospitals in Illinois, California, New York, and Pennsylvania. I know that his experience and success in other communities similar to Ottumwa will serve him well at ORHC. During his initial visit to Ottumwa, he spent time with the hospital board, members of the medical staff, and hospital managers and they all came away with the sense that Phil was the right man to lead the hospital.”

According to Mr. Dionne, “I am very excited about the opportunity to come to Ottumwa. There are a number of positive things happening at the hospital and I am confident that together we can make Ottumwa Regional Health Center a hospital that serves the region with care and compassion. In just the next few weeks the intensive care unit renovations will be complete, the emergency department expansion will be started, and the new medical office buildings will be done, so the hospital and community have much to look forward to as it relates to the delivery of quality healthcare close to home.”

Some of the recent achievements at Heartland Regional Medical Center, where he has served as CEO since 2009, include:

Recruited six physicians in cardiology, pulmonary, cardio thoracic surgery, urology and renewed eleven contracts of family medicine, EENT, vascular, and cardiology physicians

Established a referral relationship with a seven member local primary care group.

Significant improvement in patient satisfaction and quality of care provided to patients was recognized.

Directed implementation of Quality processes to meet The Joint Commission quality guidelines.

Created and directed development of Regional Hospital vision and established program initiatives to move organization forward to realize concept.

In addition to his most recent role as CEO of Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, IL Mr. Dionne has served as CEO of several hospitals including Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago, IL., St. Joseph Hospital in Reading, PA., and Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, IL. Prior to his healthcare career, Phil served in the U.S. Army.
