KIRKSVILLE, MO -- It was a beautiful day to grab your tackle box for a day of fishing Saturday.
The Missouri Department of Conservation teamed up for the second year with The El Kadair Shrine Club of Kirksville for a fishing funday at the conservation pool
The event was for kids and adults who have special needs. The conservation department put more fish in the pond to give everyone a chance to catch one. Fishing gear was available for those who needed it. Education consultant Karen Armstrong said this event provides valuable experience to its participants.
“We just feel it's important. Not everybody has the opportunity, the help to go out and go fishing. So when we partner with the shiners, we're able to provide kids who are unable to do that themselves, an opportunity to go fishing.”
The shriners helped out with the fishing and threw hot dogs on the grill for everyone to enjoy. They say the event was a success and everyone had a blast. The fishing fun day was part of Free Fishing Weekend where anyone in the state of Missouri can fish without a license.
