The Kirksville Aquatic Center will help to help break the record for the world’s largest swimming lesson
KIRKSVILLE, MO -- You have a chance next week to go swimming and set a record.
Next Tuesday, June 14, The Kirksville Aquatic Center is working with other aquatic facilities around the globe to help break the record for the world’s largest swimming lesson.
The program helps to promote and draw attention to the importance of learning how to swim and prevent drowning. Participants will learn through education while having some fun all at the same time. There will be all at the same time. There will be all types of skills you can learn from flip turns to the breaststroke.
Recreation specialist Robin Harden is encouraging everyone that it is never too late to learn to swim.
“We just hope we get people interested in swimming lessons where we can get people to pass their fear of getting in the water and give them a chance to get out and experience something they never got the chance to do before.”
Harden also said that it is important for people of all ages to learn how to swim.
“It's fun and anyone can come out and do it whether you're an infant or you're elderly. We're going to have people on staff for everyone. So you can come in for a quick swim lesson. It won't be super long like you would get in a normal lesson, but a quick tutorial where you can learn at least a few skills to help keep you safe.”
Harden said at least 50 people are needed in the classes in Kirksville to help break the record. The event is free and it all starts at 10 a.m.
