It's time for the 7th annual Food 4 Kids program.

The program is relying on the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri, but they can only supply food this summer if the community operates in a way that qualifies the food bank to receive reimbursements of the costs from the government. In other words, there is a new twist this year.  Kids must eat their food at the park. An extra incentive has been thrown in this year as games and activities will be provided along with the meals. The program will be held at three parks in Kirksville this year. Jaycee Park, P.C. Mills Park and Brashear Park will hold the Food 4 Kids program.

The program will kickoff on June 21. Food 4 Kids Coordinator Jim Turner said the event is a great program for families to take advantage of during these hard times.

"Food prices are going up, so it makes it hard for some families. In the summer, by serving at parks here it's fairly close for the children to get a good meal that is nutritious," Turner said.
