LA PLATA, MO --
The Queen Anne Victorian home known as the John T. and Mary Doneghy Home was built in 1895.
Current owner Edward Green pays tribute to all the owners in the hallway above the staircase.
“Mr. Doneghy was the one that owned the house, and then the Surbeck's were the one I bought it from, and then there's me,” Green said.
Green bought the house in 1975, and spent three years remodeling. He picked out everything from the oak woodwork to the wallpaper.
“The wallpaper I put it on, and I went over to Marceline and picked her up and I took her home,” Green said.
Green has spent the last 35 years filling the house with antiques.
“I've always collected antiques. I'd just be on the road working and I'd go into a shop or just into a business and if it had antiques in it, I would pick up a few antiques if they interested me,” Green said.
Because every piece in the house was handpicked by him, and every picture frame personally refinished, the collection is near and dear to Green.
“Everything I have in here I know. I would know in an instant if anything was missing,” Green said.
The Doneghy House was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
