The inaugural event kicks off at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
OTTUMWA, IOWA -- A Remembrance Day Parade is only one of the events scheduled this weekend.
The parade begins at 1 p.m. at the Bridge View Center on Saturday, and will travel south on Church Street to Richmond...then west to Greater Ottumwa Park. The theme will be to "those who protect freedom."
Participants in the parade are asked to gather at Municipal Parking Lot in downtown Ottumwa at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
On Friday at noon, a "Pickin N Grinin Festival" will get underway at Greater Ottumwa Park. It's a country music festival which will continue through Saturday.
It is organized by the Ottumwa Shrine Club.
"The Shriners, we work with a bunch of the children. And they are children who can't get care somewhere else. We work with burn victims. We work with kids that need prosthetics. We do a lot for those with cleft palate, cleft lip...spinal cord injuries. We work with those with Spina Bifida, that type of situation. A lot of insurances do not cover those things," said Dennis Renfrew, President of the Ottumwa Shrine Club.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Shriners charities.
