KIRKSVILLE --
The city of Kirksville is a partner with MoDOT on the construction of the Alternate Route 63 Project.
MoDOT has outlined plans with the city of Kirksville for naming the Alternate Route and Baltimore.
The plans call for the Alternate Route to be the "New 63" and Baltimore to be called Business 63-Baltimore.
The city of Kirksville was aware of the naming of the Alternate Route, but was not made aware of the Business Route designation until recently.
According to MoDOT, the new Business 63-Baltimore designation would assist motorists in locating the commercial activity of the city of Kirksville.
The question is will this affect businesses located on Baltimore?
City Manager Mari Macomber said business owners seems to be okay with the possible change.
"When you look at the signs it says Business 63-Baltimore. I have talked to a couple of business owners who are out on Baltimore and they said we are the Business Route. We are where people stop to eat, shop or whatever. We really didn't see that as a big deal. It's just something I wanted to be cautious and let the council know this is how it will be signed," Macomber said.
MoDOT and the city are planning to meet again in the near future to discuss the names for the roadways.
