ADAIR COUNTY, MO. -- A thunderstorm that rolled through the Kirksville area just before noon Wednesday left some pretty noticeable damage in its path.
An old barn on the Butch and Louise Newman farm on Patterson Way just east of Kirksville virtually disappeared.
Strong winds ripped the structure from its foundation and slammed it down a few feet away, leaving the farm machinery inside untouched.
Butch Newman told KTVO he had some insurance on the building. “Not enough,” he said.
The storm also ripped a big door off of another shed on the Newman’s farm.
Newman said he is just glad his house on the other side of the driveway wasn't damaged because his wife was inside when the thunderstorm rolled through.
We also received reports of doors ripped off a barn near the intersection of Highway 6 East and Route F. The barn reportedly belongs to Ken Read of Kirksville.
Damage to a barn owned by Waldo West of rural Kirksville was also reported.
We are also told the storm left its mark on East Center Way and Clay Way in Adair County.
