OTTUMWA, IOWA (AP) --
Two fifth-graders have been arrested for having marijuana at their elementary school in Ottumwa.
The two Wilson Elementary School students, ages 10 and 11, were charged after a teacher heard about the drugs and investigated.
Superintendent Jon Sheldahl says school staff found the drugs and called police.
School Principal Jody Williams says she can't recall another time in her career when elementary school children faced drug
charges. She says the students will have a substance abuse assessment.
Police Chief Jim Clark says fifth-graders being arrested for possession of marijuana is unusual in Ottumwa.
