MACON, MO./BROOKFIELD, MO. -- Travis Lovett, the owner of SmellgoodZ stores in Macon and Brookfield is making some noise again this month. The two stores were raided back in February by the North Missouri Drug Task Force, Macon Police and Brookfield Police Departments.
One of the items confiscated is a substance known as Bocomo Dew. The substance is creating a controversy because although it is sold as incense, it can be smoked with the same affect as marijuana. KTVO sent a reporter into the Brookfield store this afternoon who was able to purchase three grams of Bocomo Dew for $20 with a valid drivers license.
Macon Chief of Police Steve Olinger said he is not surprised that the substance is still being sold, even though the controversy continues to heat up. "There were comments made that his intentions were not to quit selling. His intentions were to keep selling the products that made him money," Olinger said. Macon police are still awaiting drug test results from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Criminal Laboratory. Authorities expect to get the results in late June or early July.
Brookfield Police also seized $1,313.27 from the Brookfield SmellgoodZ in the February raid. Authorities allege that money was intended to purchase and distribute herbal aromatherapy incense sprayed with the chemical known as JWH-250 and bath salts, both of which are imitation controlled substances. Lovett will head to trial in Linn County on May 16 to keep that money.
If it is forfeited, all proceeds will go to a local school fund or be disposed of in any other manner provided for by law.
